Dr. John Frattarelli is a world-renowned Reproductive Endocrinologist. He is the Founder, Medical, Practice and Laboratory Director for the Fertility Institute of Hawaii, he is one of the few physicians nationally who is qualified to serve as Laboratory Director for the In Vitro Fertilization laboratory.

Education and Certification

Dr. Frattarelli received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Memphis, TN. He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. followed by a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Frattarelli is double board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Top Docs Legacy AwardDr. Frattarelli is one of only a few fertility physicians in the world to also be certified as a High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD). This HCLD certification allows him to provide additional laboratory oversight to all fertility procedures occurring in the IVF laboratory. Because of his expertise, Dr. Frattarelli serves as a medical and scientific consultant to multiple IVF laboratories, genetic laboratories, and pharmaceutical companies world-wide.

Experience

Prior to founding the Fertility Institute of Hawaii, Dr. Frattarelli was the Medical and Practice Director at Tripler Army Medical Center IVF Institute in Honolulu for 6 years from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Frattarelli completed his military service in 2013 as a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC). He also served as the Clinical Research Director at Reproductive Medicine Associates (RMA) of New Jersey from 2006 to 2008. Under Dr. Frattarelli’s direction, the practice received national and international attention and received multiple research awards. In addition he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and an Associate Professor at Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ.

Dr. John Frattarelli at the computer Dr. Frattarelli is a member of several national and international societies. He has also held many national offices within those societies to include: Chair for the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Associates. Chair for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology Examination Committee, Clinical Director of the Executive Council for the Society for Assisted Reproduction and Technology, 2021-2022 President and Chair for the Strategic Planning Committee for the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society. Private Practice Director for the Executive Committee of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

He is an avid award-winning researcher and lecturer with over 200 national and international presentations and published manuscripts. He has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly and Best Doctor by Honolulu Magazine yearly since 2009.

Dr. Frattarelli’s interests have focused on reproductive endocrinology and ways to improve infertility diagnosis and treatment, particularly in the areas of diminished ovarian reserve, infertility surgery, ultrasonography, polycystic ovarian syndrome, recurrent miscarriages, endometriosis, ovulation induction, male aging, in vitro fertilization and preimplantation genetic testing.
