Dianna and her husband never really felt pressured to have a child until after 30. They knew that time was a factor when trying to conceive, but they assumed it would happen naturally. After turning 30, they began to worry and started using various apps to track their timing window. Despite their efforts, after 5 years, things were looking grim.
While battling the stress of COVID-19 and infertility, they found the Fertility Institute of Hawaii (FIH). Since it was during the pandemic, many processes took longer, but the clinic always prioritized their safety. It was a significant step to come to terms with needing help for something they felt should happen naturally. Dr. Frattarelli, however, explained their options and situation clearly and directly. “I still remember him looking me in the eye with confidence and saying that he believed we could have a baby. That moment gave me the strength I needed to continue. I deeply appreciated the insight and honesty he brought to each consultation.”
They initially attempted about 10 IUIs (intrauterine inseminations), their choice, not his, hoping to get lucky, but they did not work. With that in mind, they moved on to an IVF (in vitro fertilization) cycle. The egg retrieval resulted in three embryos that made it to day 5. The first transfer was successful, and hearing the heartbeat for the first time was incredible. Sadly, that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Determined not to give up, they transferred the last 2 embryos, but they resulted in a chemical pregnancy.
Due to insurance issues, the couple took a break from FIH and sought help elsewhere. However, after 2 years with little to no progress, they decided to return. By then, being in her mid-30s, Dianna was nervous, but the FIH team promptly started preparing her for her transfer.
“Thanks to the Fertility Institute of Hawaii, I am overjoyed to introduce our baby, Luna Usagi Galileo Rodgers. Our journey was not easy, but with the right help, we achieved our dream. The FIH team were prompt and thorough throughout each attempt, guiding me through the many options for IUIs and IVFs. Each journey is unique, but Dr. Frattarelli’s experience and dedication stood out. He carefully considered the best options for us and ensured we were informed about every choice available. His confidence and expertise helped spur on our hope. To anyone facing similar struggles, trust the process, trust the guidance, and don’t lose hope.”
